Introduction to Electric Vehicle Mobility

In the previous unit, we learned about the main components of an electric vehicle. We understood the important roles played by the traction battery, the electric motor, and the electronic power converters. We also reviewed the different types of electric vehicles and discussed the infrastructure for charging electric vehicles.
This unit will answer several questions, including:
- Were electric cars already around at the beginning of the automotive era?
- What makes the car so popular and why should it be converted to electric now?
- What are the unique features of an electric vehicle?
- Why is electrification the most important sustainable disruption to mobility?
- How is automated driving accepted in different countries?
- Why are connectivity an important part of electric mobility?
- What are the challenges facing electric mobility?
In this unit, we will attempt to answer the questions mentioned above. The main topics to be covered are:
- Business Basics - Battery and Motor
- The future of mobility
- Technical hype cycles according to Gartner
- Key factors in urban mobility
- Emissions and three major pollutants in urban areas
- Regenerativ braking
- Overcrowding in cities
- self-driving cars
- Automation
- Public-private car sharing
- Total cost of ownership
- Mobility as a Service
We have prepared a new glossary of terms for this unit. You can download it from here or via the Resources tab. Enjoy this unit!
